I still remember the day I heard the news of the first “test-tube baby.” I was 9 years old, and I pictured a naked baby not in a test tube—that would be too small—but a large beaker, all squished up against the glass sides. Never in my wildest 9-year-old imagination did I think it would ever have anything remotely to do with me. Now my own IVF baby is 9.

Happy Birthday, Louise Brown. Thank you, Lesley and John Brown, her brave parents. Thank you, Drs. Robert Edwards and Patrick Stephoe, IVF pioneers.
