WordPress This

OK, now I am celebrating something else today: I just successfully installed and used the emoji plug-in, in about 30 seconds no less, woo hoo! Yay, me!  This is cause for celebration because ever since I started this WordPress website endeavor I have been baffled by its bullshit. I mean, I consider myself a fairly bright girl. I’m no techno whiz but I’m not a total dunce either (or maybe I am??). I created a website for another project using Wix in no time with minimal headache. I went with WordPress for this site under the nearly unequivocal advisement of reliable writing resources, including Jane Friedman who has serious publishing street cred and an amazingly helpful website of her own. And everywhere I looked I saw “how easy WordPress is,” “Wordpress in a Week,” “Wordpress in a Day,” “Wordpress in 10 minutes!” So no brainer, right? Eeeenh! Maybe for a straight up blog. Write post, click Publish. Done. But a lovely, fun, organic website that I’ve been dreaming about for some time now? It wasn’t long before I realized, Yeah, I’m going to need some serious fucking help with this. And I found it, too, in the Orange Snowman, my website designer. FREE Short Stories…No Lie!

Check out the first two short stories I’ve posted, Lying in Wait and Doggone Lie, and no, I’m not a big liar liar pants on fire or fascinated by lying or anything. I wrote them for a short story contest Jennifer Weiner did with a wine company called White Lies. So there was a theme. And I won first prize and fame and fortune for these stories and you get to read them for free! Well, the first prize, fame, and fortune are actually lies (I couldn’t resist), but you do get to read them for free, and in this really cool format, thanks to The Orange Snowman! Leave a comment below to let me know what you think! LP ...

In The Beginning…

I’m late to everything. Usually just by five or ten minutes or so. (I once read that Hillary Rodham Clinton is always late, but only by 15 minutes. I thought, Huh, at least I’m in good company, because love her or hate her, the woman gets some shit done.) Other things I’m a bit more painfully late to, like beginning a career in healthcare in the 90s, just as insurance reimbursement for physicians started taking a swift kick to the balls, writing a chick lit book in 2004, just as that market was declared dead, or at least saturated, by some, and buying investment property in 2005 (suck-kah!). So I’m late to this blogging thing too. It’s not that I haven’t wanted to blog or haven’t had anything to say. It’s not even that I’m a procrastinator, because I’m not. It’s simply taken me until now to get to it. Life happens. I’m busy. We’re all busy. We have to prioritize and not everything gets done. But as the old saying goes, better late than never, so here I am at last- woo hoo! Why not start with my earliest memories of falling in love with books? Little Golden Books were probably the Sandra Boyntons of my generation, and the first books I remember having tons of and returning to over and over. But those were when I was...
