Reading, Writing,Reproductive Support & Empowerment

Laurie PrimThank you for visiting Laurie Prim! I write Memoir, Women’s Fiction, and Chick Lit, and love to talk about all kinds of books and writing.

I struggled mightily with miscarriages and IVF and, in part through writing, I hope to help increase awareness of infertility and reproductive trauma and offer support and empowerment to others going through this life crisis. You can learn more about me here and connect with me on Facebook here.

Fall 2016, Part 2: And Then The Election Happened

Y0u can read here, or watch here, how that has changed things here a bit (there’s also a CliffsNotes version here). I am reeling, and it will be a work in progress.

Fall 2016

Hi, and thank you for visiting Laurie Prim. I had big plans here this fall, and things started off swimmingly.

The Magic of Memoir will be published in November, and I have all sorts of ideas about how I can help let people know about this awesome, inspiring book. I will keep you posted on that!

My daughter started pre-school, which breaks my heart a bit, but also gives me several extra hours a week that I’ve strictly devoted to editing my memoir- woo hoo!

I met with my fab fellow-mom-and-reader-Web Person and got plans underway for some great changes and a face-lift of my site. Also working on a newsletter to periodically send some fun extras right to your inbox (sign up on the right- I won’t inundate you, promise!).

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, and I certainly have plenty to say about that. October 14th is a celebration of an amazing day of progress and support in our community with Madison’s Miracles, at the dedication ceremony of a Cuddle Cot (Florida’s first!) to Martin Memorial Hospital, in honor of Madison Elizabeth Stamper.

November 19th is the 1st Annual Remembrance Walk in Stuart for babies gone too soon, which I will attend both as a participant and representing Treasure Coast Resolve.

And lots of other things, including about a bazillion blogs I’m dying to write.

Good stuff, right?!

Then, suddenly, within a two week period there were deaths, sudden and tragic. Two particularly cruel ones in my support groups; Miami Marlins pitcher, Jose Fernandez, which leveled me far more than I ever could have anticipated; a good family friend, which orphaned two teenage girls I care about deeply. And on the tail of these painful losses, evacuating for Hurricane Matthew, which was projected to hit us directly as a Category 4 storm.

Grief and hurricanes totally SUCK for Plans and To-Do Lists. Not the first time I’ve learned this lesson the hard way.

I have perspective. Life is still good, and the main reason it’s easy to get knocked off track when the going gets tough is I have two little kids to take care of– the best reason ever. I always want to be a few steps ahead of where I am, it’s just how I’m wired. The difference for me now that I have my babies and I’m writing, is that I’m happy in the meantime.

In other words, all the difference in the world.

For those of you struggling for your difference, whatever that is for YOU, keep fighting. It’s worth it. And I hope maybe you can find some help here in one small corner of the reading, writing, and reproductive support world.

Wishing you a great Fall. Hope it’s more New England style—crisp and cozy—than Florida style—toasty and wet!

Cheers,

Laurie

Summer 2016
Pink birthday cupcake

It’s been an awesome year of reading, writing, raving, and reproductive supporting & advocating, which is essentially what you’ll find here. I write Women’s Fiction, Chick Lit, and Memoir, and love to talk about all kinds of books and writing. I struggled mightily with miscarriages and IVF and, in part through my writing, I hope to help increase awareness of these issues and offer support to others going through this life crisis.

I’m still—painfully-slowly still—editing my memoir, What Didn’t Kill Me, which may end up being two books. The process has largely gone from feeling unable to cut the fat to trying to implement the huge amount of knowledge and feedback I’ve acquired in the past year into every chapter, scene, word. Which is, of course, the work of a writer, and I love the process, so it’s not a complaint. It’s just hard to remain patient with the pace that results from squeezing it all in, as so many writers do, between a day job and young children and everything else. And why do we always dream that we’re going to get more done in summer? Not!

You can also connect with me on Facebook and Goodreads, and hopefully, maybe, possibly, thinking about Instagram one of these days soon too.

Happy Summer from broiling but air-conditioned Florida!

Winter 2016

Hi, thank you for visiting Laurie Prim, up and running for about 6 months now, woo hoo! I hope you will join me here for some reading, writing, and raving, as well as reproductive advocacy and/or support. (And because I tried to resist, but failed, some baseball!)

I write Women’s Fiction, Chick Lit, and Memoir, and love to talk about all kinds of books and writing. I struggled mightily with miscarriages and IVF and, in part through my writing, I hope to help increase awareness of these issues and offer support to others going through this life crisis.

I am still working out some kinks on the website, including getting periodic notifications out to subscribers (I will not deluge you!), so please do subscribe over there to the right, and I will make it happen soon. Writing is hard. But not as hard as maintaining a website when your skill set for doing so is, shall we say, wee? But I will get there, and look forward to being a resource for some great book discussion, for hope and encouragement, and for some laughs.

You may also visit me, among other places, on Facebook (something I never thought I would say, never mind embrace). I am so grateful to have found some truly amazing writing and reproductive communities there and would love to see you there too.

Happy “Winter” from Sunny Florida!

Cheers,

Laurie

Summer 2015

Hi, thanks for visiting Laurie Prim! I hope you enjoy browsing and will join me in some reading, writing, and raving (and you can definitely throw some ranting in there, too, but it didn’t fit well in the tagline! 🙂 ). And don’t let the last name fool you; this is not your grandma’s website. Unless your grandma also prefers her reading, writing and raving with plenty of Sierra Nevada and the occasional F-bomb.

I write Women’s Fiction, Chick Lit, and Memoir, and love to talk about all kinds of books and writing. I struggled mightily with miscarriages and IVF and, in part through my writing, I hope to help increase awareness of these issues and offer support to others. Other issues I am interested in and will pop up here from time to time include mental health and homelessness.

I’m just getting going with the site and my blog so I hope you’ll forgive any temporary snafus and check back frequently for lots of new stuff. Please take a sec to join my mailing list on the right over there, I’ll send periodic updates!

Cheers,

Laurie 🙂
